Books he has edited have won or been nominated for the National Book Award, the National Book Critics Circle John Leonard Prize, the Kirkus Prize, the Lambda Literary Award, the PEN Jean Stein Open Book Award, the PEN/Faulkner Award, the PEN/Hemingway Award, the PEN/Galbraith Award, and the Los Angeles Times Art Seidenbaum Award for First Fiction.
