Crafting the Heart of Your Novel with Chelsea Bieker
Sunday, June 30
11 AM –  2 PM PST / 2 PM – 5 PM EST

Even if you mastered every craft tip possible, there is still the element of heart in a novel that cannot be taught, but must be felt. Heart is what connects readers with our stories, heart is how we access our most profound work, and heart is where the most fearless version of our novels live. But how can we access it, especially in our most blocked moments? If you feel you are at a standstill with your project, have the sense that something is missing, or the pages don’t seem to be flowing, it may be useful to embark on the deep work of looking at your core (often unconscious) beliefs that may be holding you back.

Fear, anxiety, operating from low self-worth, etc. are things that with guidance and practice, we can overcome and begin to integrate new structures that will serve us and our work and every action we take in our careers. The magical thing about accessing the heart of your novel is that it’s connected to everything else. We will look at practical and actionable ways you can begin to dismantle what no longer serves you and implement what does both on the page and in your daily life, tap into our intuition to approach questions of structure, plot, conflict, and pacing, and do in class writing exercises engineered to enhance our connection with our own artistic instinct. In addition to this, students will be invited to participate in one instructor-led visualization specifically created for novel writing and will come away refreshed with new work and insights that will benefit their novel projects and daily practice.

We have one scholarship available for this intensive. Scholarships are conducted through a lottery. If you are interested in submitting your name, please fill out this form.
