Bending Time: The Art of the Speculative Short Story with Laura van den Berg
Saturday, April 13
11 AM  – 2 PM PST / 2 – 5 PM EST
Online

This intensive will focus on the art of writing speculative / fantastic short stories, with a particular emphasis on experiments in time, from Julio Cortázar’s parallel timelines in “Island at Noon” to Ted Chiang’s all-knowing narrator in “Story of Your Life.” The intensive will include craft discussion, a writing exercise, and Q & A. We will cover practical tools for how to build “time-bending” speculative worlds without losing our readers—and how bending time in fiction can open up exciting new portals of emotion and meaning.

This craft intensive is best suited for experienced writers.
