With regular reprints of Tin House stories and poems in such renowned anthologies as
The Pushcart Prize, Best American Short Stories, O. Henry: Prize Stories, and Best American Poetry, readers might be led to believe that the
magazine is comprised of a high-powered, well-staffed cadre of editors. But in fact we rely heavily on smart, motivated interns to help us
accomplish
all the work that needs to get done. Under the guidance of assistant and senior editors, Tin House interns are responsible for an array of tasks that includes reading manuscripts, managing and recording the influx of submissions, sending responses to writers, and getting a sneak
preview
at award-winning stories and poems before they land in the magazine.
Interested applicants should demonstrate a good knowledge of and passion for contemporary literature as well as a familiarity with Tin House. The majority of interns who work for the magazine are recent college graduates, though we occasionally employ undergraduate
students. Internships are offered on a rolling basis of differing tenures in the New York and Portland offices. The minimum weekly commitment is 12 hours. While there is unfortunately no compensation for these positions beyond credit on the masthead and complimentary copies of the magazine, the internships remain competitive since we have only a few available in each office.
